The City of Shelby currently has an opening on the leadership team for a Director of Housing. A successful candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of housing programs and services; knowledge of compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations; effective skills to manage and motivate the departmental team; and the ability to provide safe and well-maintained housing for residents.
The City (population 22,000) is centrally located between Asheville and Charlotte in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina. The Housing Department is part of the City’s government structure. This position is one of 11 department director positions and reports to the Assistant City Manager. The Director of Housing plans, directs, and manages 172 apartments ranging from 1 to 5 bedrooms with income-based rent. This position oversees 7 employees from maintenance to customer service. In addition to providing housing, the department also offers residents training assistance in areas such as budgeting, life skills, education, job searching, and preparation for homeownership.

The annual salary is $83,303 – $104,961, depending on experience.
